063 – When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Look For Bright Moments to Fuel Them

Today, I’m going to recap my five brightest moments of the week. And I’m going to do this for a specific reason. Because it was a fucking hard week.

But also so many good things came out of it. I made a lot of decisions and they did a lot of things that were really important for me that are changing the trajectory of my life.

And I’m telling you that, that it was a very hard week because I want to remind you if you’re out there listening hearing me talk about my five brightest moments all the time that no matter what is happening, there’s always a silver lining and it’s always with finding.

And when I find the silver lining and I look for my bright moments in the day or in the week, I’m able to come away with a sense of appreciation for what I’ve created for myself, for who I am, for the people that I have around me, from my family, for my friends, for the circumstances that I find myself in.

And I hope that you’re able to do the same.

063 – When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Look For Bright Moments to Fuel Them

Rebecca: So today’s episode is going to be a little bit different. Don’t worry. We do have some interviews coming up and so soon you’ll be hearing some fascinating women talking about all kinds of neat things. And I can’t wait to share it with you. But for today. Today, I’m going to recap my five brightest moments of the week.

And I’m going to do this for a specific reason. Because it was a fucking hard week. But also so many good things came out of it. I made a lot of decisions and they did a lot of things that were really important for me that are changing the trajectory of my life. So, overall, very good thing.

I got to spend a couple of summer evenings on the beach this week. And it has been blissful. I have forgotten what summer evenings really feel like. I almost took my hammock down to the beach and hung out there for a while. But I forgot! I ended up walking all over the place. I spent most of my day today, well half of my day, walking around and enjoying the sun and exploring my world, exploring the neighborhood.

And just getting to be out! It’s a Saturday for me. And I had done a lot of work this week and I needed to just rest and relax. So I intentionally took some time away from my computer away from my projects and made myself get outside.

And it was lovely. It was so nice. I walked in parts of the neighborhood that I had not been in. I saw trees I had not seen, I get to smell roses I had never smelled. And by the time I got home, I was refreshed and excited. And happy for the rest of my day. That was lovely.

This week, I was also able to get some tech troubleshooting done.

I’ve been finding some noise in the podcast recently. And turns out it’s one of the microphones. One of the microphones is now creating a high pitch noise, and I don’t like it. So I’m going to go to replace the microphone somehow soon. And hopefully I’ll also be able to get some Bluetooth wireless mics so that I can record with good audio while I’m outside and still be able to hear the voices!

So, that process of troubleshooting and of figuring out what it was going on is very satisfying because now I have “aha! This is what needs to be done.” That’s simple. I can get that done. I love that.

I like having a solution to a known problem.

So one of the reasons this week was so tough is a lot of my social circle is just not around right now. And so I use that opportunity to open up… well, I used that opportunity once I sat in the grief for a little while without noticing it! But I used that opportunity to open up to some new people and I made some invitations and I didn’t think about it before, but the people who I invited to come and spend time with me, it made so much sense looking back on it, like, why haven’t I connected with these people before? Why haven’t I invited them over for dinner? We’re already COVID connected. So it was an easy thing to do. And there was a lot of people also, then I’ll be seeing on zoom and having a new kind of relationship with that way. So, it just feels like in the death of. A good portion of my usual circle. Is the birth of the new one. And that’s exciting.

I think back in March, I had, uh, an idea about COVID creating this sense of needing to figure out who you want to have on your boat. You know, who do you want to go through this life with… and actually, this is because of a movie, Love in the Time of Cholera…

actually, I don’t know if it was in that movie or if it was a movie that referenced Love in the Time of Cholera. I think it was a rom com that referenced Love in the Time of Cholera. I might have to look this up, but it was a great movie.

And it talks about who do you want to have on your boat? Who do you want to go through life with? Who do you want to be stuck with if all goes to hell. And well, global pandemic. This is pretty good, pretty good test of that.

So figuring out who I want to have on my boat, and making those invitations and being the one to reach out. I often forget to reach out. So, developing that new habit again reaching out and asking and sharing.

I’m glad I did that. I’m glad I came to that conclusion.

Here’s another bright moment. Actually it was a series of bright moments. This entire week I’ve been able to connect with a group of women that are all moving in the same direction in their own businesses. And we’ve started a sort of informal mastermind. And the way that the dynamic is working in the group, it feels like we’re each the answer to each other’s questions. You know, it’s a really beautiful type of mastermind to be a part of.

Plus everyone in that group is so cool. So I get to spend some one on one time with a few of the ladies. We got to have a group mastermind session. And then we also got to have an online workout session, which was so cool. It’s something called the London method. And it’s a, it’s a form of barre, but it’s a form of barre that’s not usually taught in the US.

What’s normally taught in the US is a watered-down version is the best way of saying it.  It was changed a bit to suit the American sensibility, except in the changing of it,  it also changed the effectiveness and the actual outcome and the output of it. And I’ve known about things like this for a long time.

I’ve really cared about my body. And so I’ve learned a lot about exercise science and Pilates and yoga and martial arts and dancing and all kinds of other things. Just learning whatever I can to figure out how to be enjoying my body to the fullest in life. And how to do it in a way that is comfortable and easy. I’m definitely not a CrossFit type person. I don’t like to push and push and push and push. I guess that’s not all that CrossFit is. But. The London method, I found it to be really perfect for me. And I think it’s probably perfect for just about any female form out there.

It seems to sculpt in a really nice way. And the online class that we did was so nice! And my muscles seem to remember a lot of things from Pilates. But it had a London method flavor on top of it. So it was fun. It was entertaining. It was hard, but it wasn’t like, Oh my God, I’m sweating so hard I’m going to fall on the floor” kind of hard.

But it was definitely, definitely working my body. I can feel all kinds of little muscles are more awake and alive than they’ve ever been before, or than they’ve been in a long time, for sure.

So I’d love to give a shout out to Kelly Waxman for setting up the class for us and for bringing the London method to the U S as well.   Yeah, I think I’m going to have to keep taking those classes.

So any of you ladies out there that would like to get an amazing ass and a beautiful waist all lovely and tucked in and cinched,  come and check it out with me!

And I think my fifth brightest moment has to do with the potential of some new yumminess that’s coming into my life and I’m not gonna say too many details about it, but a lover and/or lovers… maybe making an appearance here soon in my world. And I’m excited by that. That’s very cool.

I do love having new people in the mix. And I do love being able to connect and get to know new people and see what they’re like. And being poly it’s actually been surprisingly easy to navigate dating in this COVID world. I thought it would be really challenging, but I think maybe the fact that I’m dating poly people and poly people tend to be used to having safe sex conversations and other awkward conversations right away.

So, yeah, it’s actually been really nice, really lovely. And. I feel like I’m being seen and being heard and yeah. I… I can’t wait. I hope I have more to tell you later, but for now, you’ll just have to be satisfied with the teaser.

Speaking of teaser,  next week I’ll be having Cynthia D’mour on the podcast and we’ll be talking about the difference between a bite of chocolate and a pleasure-filled life.

It may not be what you think it is.
