Ted models a healthy way of existing and of adulting, which is uncommon in a TV show. Ted is an interesting and uplifting example model of modern masculinity.
Ted thrives and has lots of chances to show radical honesty, empathy, etc because he has intentionally put himself in uncomfortable situations and taken risks based on his real, heart-centered values.
